An analysis among 48,000 employees, conducted by Realise, the HR research and consultancy firm of Schouten & Nelissen, shows that just over twenty percent of employees have had to deal with inappropriate behavior from colleagues and/or employees in the past three and a half years. executives. Complaints regarding intimidation are the most common. The research, which covers various sectors, shows that violence is the least common form of unwanted behavior in the workplace.
The percentages of employees confronted with undesirable behavior have remained stable at around 20 percent in recent years. From 2018 to 2023, approximately one in eight employees reported experiencing harassment. A slightly smaller proportion have had to deal with bullying behavior. About 5 to 7.5 percent of employees reported experiences of discrimination. With regard to sexual misconduct, between 2.5 and 6 percent of employees have experienced this during the past five years, while between 0.25 and 3.5 percent have been victims of (verbal) violence. Especially in these last two categories, a striking increase has been observed over the past six months.
